FLAMMABLE LIQUID STORAGE CABINETS

Contact Us

The South African National Standard as more clearly defined in SANS 54470-1:2017 provides performance requirements to fire safety cabinets when used for the storage of flammable liquids.

Flammable liquid storage cabinets shall be classified by the time taken for temperature inside the cabinet to rise by 180 C° from a starting temperature of (20 ± 5) °C.

The cabinet shall be classified as a type 10, 15, 30, 60 or 90 according to the time for which the interior cabinet temperature does not rise by more than 180°C at any point of measurement.

The doors

should be self-closing and seal according to the classification and a spill retention sump with a minimum depth of 50mm or 10% of the specified storage capacity must be provided.

The shelves

shall be so designed to carry the load specified without distorting at the testing temperature. The entire cabinet shall be constructed from the same thickness material and with comparable construction.

Dedicated extract fans

may be connected to the storage cabinet to vent fume laden air to atmosphere or through activated carbon filters in the event that such extraction is exhausted
internally within the facility.
